Biohut®
Biohut® is an artificial nursery designed to restore the ecological functions of developed areas.
Are you a commercial port manager looking to launch an initiative to restore aquatic biodiversity? We can help you design a customized project tailored to your port's specific challenges and constraints.
Ecocean works closely with your teams to support you at every stage of your project, helping you design and implement solutions tailored to the environmental challenges and operational constraints of commercial ports.
Whether as part of a request for proposals, a voluntary initiative, or a certification project, Ecocean gets involved from the very earliest stages of the project. We conduct a technical and ecological assessment of the site to analyze the port’s characteristics and uses (operational zones, traffic, infrastructure, and regulatory and environmental constraints). This step allows us to identify locations suitable for implementing our solutions, anticipate operational constraints, and ensure the project’s feasibility and compatibility with port operations.
Based on the assessment, we prepare a detailed cost estimate for the proposed solutions, tailored to the site’s specific challenges and the port’s objectives.
Ecocean oversees the operational implementation of the project, including the underwater work required to deploy the selected solutions (ecological support measures or mitigation measures).
Regular ecological monitoring can be conducted to assess the colonization of installed structures and changes in associated biodiversity. This allows for an analysis of the solutions’ effectiveness and highlights the results obtained, which are presented in annual reports.
Periodic maintenance operations are carried out to ensure the ecological functionality of the modules. These include technical inspections, targeted cleaning, and, if necessary, adjustments to ensure the durability and performance of the structures over time.
Throughout the project, awareness-raising initiatives may be offered to promote the port’s environmental approach and strengthen the city-port connection. These initiatives are aimed at users, schoolchildren, and the general public, through educational materials, activities, or dedicated events.
At the end of the project, the solutions can be dismantled and the materials fully recycled. This step is part of a circular economy approach and contributes to responsible long-term environmental management.
« Preserving biodiversity is part of CMA CGM’s ‘Acting for the Planet’ pillar, which lies at the heart of the Group’s sustainability commitments. (...) We are delighted with this first example of collaboration with Ecocean in Abu Dhabi, which we hope to replicate in other countries. »
