Types of Devices
There are two general types of post larvae capture devices, namely crest nets and lights traps. Depending of the environment and the objectives of the project, a certain device type will be preferred to another. The following table published in the CPS review gives some helpful indications regarding choice of device.
The Ecocean team has tested and evaluated all of these devices, but we chose to focus our research and development work on light attractors because they have the huge advantage of being usable in every coastal zone, from tropical to temperate and even to cold. We have therefore gained more than 10 years extensive experience of capturing PCC with this type of gear in over 20 countries.
